This visa category grants the applicant, approval to conduct business, obtain employment, to pursue education, or receive medical treatment for a period of one year from the date of arrival in this country. This category allows for multiple entry to the country during its validity.
This visa is also renewable on expiry, subject to approval from the ‘Sri Lanka Department of Immigration & Emigration’.
(A) Business Category
1/ The applicant’s original passport with a validity period of one or more years.
2/ A copy of the passport page which carries the holder’s information.
3/ Two passport size photographs.
4/ (a) A request letter printed on the company’s official letterhead and addressed to: The Visa Officer, The Immigration & Emigration Department of Sri Lanka, "Suhurupaya", Sri Subhuthipura Road, Battaramulla. It is necessary for this request letter to be signed by the local director of the company and should also contain the name, designation, National Identity Card number and contact details of the signatory. An alternate director may sign this document, only in the absence of a local director in the company structure. The company seal should be affixed to this document, where applicable.
(b) A copy of the signatory’s national identity card or a copy of the passport should be attached to the request letter for identity verification.
5/ Copies of the company’s Form 1, the Articles of Association and the Certificate of Incorporation, all of which, should be duly certified as ‘True Copy’ by the company secretaries.
6/ Documents which would generally lend its support towards the primary application for a resident visa, such as: the company profile, tax certificates, proof of fund transfer, employment contracts, proof of assets, audited financial statements, import documents, tax certificates, lease/purchase agreements, approval certificates or trade licenses issued by the vested government authority to conduct business in this country.
(B) Student Category
1/ The applicant’s original passport with a validity period of not less than one year.
2/ A copy of the passport page which carries the holder’s information.
3/ Two passport size photographs.
4/ A letter from the school/college/institute to which the applicant belongs, indicating the course applied for, the duration of the course and other relevant academic details.
5/ Copies of receipts issued by the education body towards the applicant’s enrollment and tuition/course fee.
6/ Copy of the encashment certificate issued from a reputed financial institution to the value of US$1500.
(C) Medical Category
1/ The applicant’s original passport with a validity period of not less than one year.
2/ A copy of the passport page which carries the holder’s information.
3/ Two passport size photographs.
4/ A report from a licensed doctor in Sri Lanka, which defines the applicant’s medical history/ailment, the treatment required for the cure and the estimated duration of the treatment.
(D) Spouse / Dependant Category
1/ The applicant’s original passport with a validity period of one or more years.
2/ A copy of the passport page which carries the holder’s information.
3/ Two passport size photographs.
4/ A copy of the marriage/birth certificate.
5/ Copies of the sponsor's passport page which carries the holder's information and the page on which the valid visa appears on the passport.
6/ A copy of the sponsor's valid employment/service contract, confirming the employment status with an organisation in Sri Lanka.
7/ A letter requesting spouse/dependent visa, printed on the company’s official letterhead and addressed to: The Visa Officer, The Immigration & Emigration Department of Sri Lanka, "Suhurupaya", Sri Subhuthipura Road, Battaramulla. The company seal should be affixed to the document, where applicable.
8/ Copies of the company’s Form 1, the Articles of Association and the Certificate of Incorporation, all of which, should be duly certified as ‘True Copy’ by the company secretaries.
Please ensure that all documents are genuine, as the submission of false documents for the purpose of obtaining a visa is a punishable offence in Sri Lanka.
Resident visa will be granted only for a maximum period of one year, based on the applicant’s date of arrival in Sri Lanka, and NOT from the date on which the application was submitted.
Employment based on a ’spouse visa’ is strictly prohibited.
